Inter CEO Beppe Marotta assures their transfer purchases are over for January with Christian Eriksen. “We were confident because he embraced our sporting project.”

The Coppa Italia quarter-final with Fiorentina kicks off at 19.45 GMT and former Tottenham Hotspur star Eriksen is on the bench.

“I’d say Eriksen is one of the best midfielders in Europe and we are very happy to have him with us, he’ll raise the level up even higher,” Marotta told Rai Sport.

“It was a long negotiation process because on the other side there was a great businessman like the Tottenham President, but we were confident because Eriksen had embraced our sporting project. At the end of the day, we reached an agreement that suits everyone and increases the quality of the squad.

“I don’t think we’ll do anything else on the market, as we were fortunate to find an extraordinary opportunity like Eriksen, but I don’t think there are other players available right now who could further raise the level of this team.

“We hope this season can represent the start of a generation of champions arriving here. We need everything to win, a strong club, a talented coach, team spirit, because talent alone is not enough.

“We started a new era and are happy with the journey so far. It’s difficult to explain the run of draws, but Antonio Conte is working hard and we hope to do even better in the second half of the season.”
