The Aquile were practically static on the January transfer market, although there was a late attempt to get Giroud from Chelsea.

“I had said we would only move for a player who could genuinely improve and help the team,” noted the coach in his press conference.

“We have a few problems in attack with Joaquin Correa’s injury, as Felipe Caicedo and Ciro Immobile are playing a lot lately. Giroud would’ve certainly helped us, but we have to keep going and I’ll try to get Bobby Adekanye improving too.

“Few expected Lazio to be in the top three at the start of this season, so the lads know we must continue like this and keep on surprising everybody. Grit our teeth and keep going.

“On top of that, Patric has a fever and is unavailable, Correa is injured, Danilo Cataldi is out, while we have to evaluate Adam Marusic and Jordan Lukaku. Senad Lulic and Luis Alberto skipped training, so we hope they can be there tomorrow.”

Lazio’s opponents are bottom of the table SPAL, although the minnows did fight back to beat the Biancocelesti back in September.

“SPAL’s last three away games were at Torino, Atalanta and Fiorentina, where they picked up two wins, which means we need a great performance,” continued Inzaghi.

“They are doing better away from home and it’s no mean feat to win away at Atalanta and Torino. We have to be on our toes. SPAL played a very attacking game against Roma too and have been working together with their coach for years, so we need a real Lazio performance.”

Luis Alberto was visibly furious after he was substitute in the 1-1 draw with Roma, but Inzaghi assures that is all behind them.

“We have an excellent rapport and all it took was a glance a minute later to understand each other. The fact is, Luis Alberto had missed Napoli, had a few fitness problems before Roma and we cannot afford to lose him right now, so I had to be extra careful.”
