Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini has won the Panchina d’Oro award for 2018-19, with Sinisa Mihajlovic in second and Max Allegri finishing third.

The award ceremony took place this afternoon, and it was revealed that Gasperini picked up the gong for the first time in his career.

The former Genoa and Inter coach guided La Dea to third place in last season’s Serie A table.

They also reached the final of the Coppa Italia final, but lost to Lazio.

The Bergamo outfit are playing in the Champions League for the first time this season, and made it out of the group stage despite losing their first three games.

La Dea will meet Valencia in the Round of 16.

Gasperini came close to winning the award in 2006-07, but finished second to Cesare Prandelli.

Mihajlovic finished second, with Allegri finishing third on the podium.

The Bologna coach was awarded a special prize, presented by Demetrio Albertini, for his public battle with leukaemia.

The Serbian has won plaudits across the coaching community for continuing to take charge of the Rossoblu despite having the life-threatening illness.
