Simone Inzaghi felt regret at the 0-0 draw with Hellas Verona, but “could not have asked for more” from Lazio, as they had 27 shots on goal.

They extended their unbeaten run to 17 rounds, equalling the club record set by Sven-Goran Eriksson from September 1998 to April 1999, but were left frustrated by Luis Alberto hitting the upright twice.

The result means the Biancocelesti remain in third place on 50 points, with Inter on 51 and leaders Juventus 54.

As for Verona, they climb above Napoli and Bologna to ninth spot, but are within a point of the group in sixth, including Milan and Cagliari.

“I congratulated the team, because we worked so hard against a very organised, physical side that played with great intensity. We had 27 shots on goal, deserved to win, but the bit of luck didn’t go our way,” the coach told DAZN.

“I was choosing the final substitute and I’ve seen before, for example three years ago in Genoa, that we ended up losing after hitting the woodwork and wasting chances. I didn’t want to take that risk, so I introduced Marco Parolo rather than Bobby Adekanye.”

Earlier in the game, Inzaghi had substituted both wing-backs Manuel Lazzari and Senad Lulic simultaneously.

“The two wing-backs had already played and sacrificed themselves for the team a few days ago, so I wanted to introduce fresh legs and thought they did well.

“Despite the fact it ended 0-0 with some regret for the result, I think our fans enjoyed themselves. We stayed sharp, hit the upright twice and I objectively could not have asked for any more from the lads.

“Now we have four days to organise another very important match against Parma on Sunday. Our fans also cheered us on from the first to the last minute on a cold Wednesday night. Results count, but so do performances, and these lads gave everything.”

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Stefan Radu will be suspended for that game.
