Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin has claimed he will “never regret” moving to Juventus and is ready to fight for a spot in the Italy squad.

The 27-year-old was loaned back to the Marassi this winter, after moving to Turin in July 2018.

He struggled to claim a place in the starting XI at the Allianz Stadium and was close to a move to Benfica last summer. Eventually he ended up where he earned his move to the Old Lady in the first place.

“I’ll never regret the choice of going to Juventus. I had the opportunity to play for one of the four, five best clubs in the world,” he told Tuttosport. “I shared the dressing room with champions and legends who taught me what it means to train for one purpose only: to win.

“I have learned a lot, things I can carry with me throughout my career. Not only on the pitch, but also outside. I hope I can teach the kids I will play with later in my career.

“At Juventus, they say winning is the only thing that matters and it’s really like that. Juventus has left me some values, I admit, I didn’t have.”

Perin hopes that he can use the regular playing time at Genoa to convince Azzurri CT Roberto Mancini that he “might deserve a chance” to go to Euro 2020.

“I know it’s very difficult, I know there are other goalkeepers fighting for a place,” he added. “He [Italy coach Roberto Mancini] knows me and it’s up to me to prove that I deserve a chance.

“I don’t deny that it will be complicated. I can’t deny that it will be complicated, but I can’t say that I’m not thinking about it. I’m here now, I’m fine and I’m back.

“I know my value and I deserve to believe that I might deserve a chance.”
