Agudelo: 'Viola an easy decision'

Kevin Agudelo has revealed it was “not difficult” to accept an offer from Fiorentina and said he has arrived at a club “with a desire to do great things”.

The Viola picked up the 21-year-old Colombian moved from Genoa on a loan deal with an obligation to make the move permanent in 2021 and now he is ready to impress at the Artemio Franchi.

“It was not a difficult decision,” he said at a press conference. “I knew that Fiorentina was a great club and with a desire to grown and do great things.

“I talked about it with my family, they all accepted my choice and supported me. Initially, I didn’t know Florence, but they had told me about it and I liked it as soon as I arrived.”

The midfielder has been compared to former Viola hero David Pizarro and said he will work hard to fill that position in the side.

“I think so, I played some games as a regista in Colombia and by working hard, I think I can become one,” he said. “I need to work on it and erase my mistakes. That’s the key to getting there.

“Once I make less mistakes and refine my technique, the last step will be to distribute the game and then I can play there.

“I can’t compare myself to [Andrea] Pirlo or Pizarro right now, but I will work to play in that role and become important for the team.”

Agudelo feels his compatriots playing in Serie A have done well and pointed out a couple of the former Fiorentina players to seek inspiration from his fellow countrymen having success in Italy.

“The Colombians who play in Italy have all had a great career, like [Juan] Cuadrado and [Luis] Muriel. I don’t talk much with them, but I think about them a lot and I often watch their games.

“I really like how Cuadrado plays, with his speed and change of rhythm. When I see him, I always greet him, but we aren’t friends. We haven’t seen each other a lot.

“I spent some time with [Duvan] Zapata at Genoa, perhaps he is the only friend I have in Italy among the Colombian players. He gave me a lot of advice when I arrived.

“I have always dreamed about representing my country in football and was happy when the Under-23 called me. If I get the chance, I will be thrilled.

“In the meantime, I will work hard, I am focused on my first target, which is to play for the club. Then we will see what steps I can make.”
