Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri says Giorgio Chiellini is “on schedule” to return to the team and it’s “easier to use a 4-3-3 formation when Douglas Costa is fit”.
The Old Lady travel to Verona this weekend, with kick off at 19:45 GMT tomorrow. You can read the match preview here.
Chiellini has missed all but one game of the season so far, but Sarri says the 35-year-old is closing in on his return.
“We are on schedule after his surgery, at the moment he is training with the group,” said Sarri in his press conference.
“He is important for us, as far as playing in games is concerned, I think we will have to take it on a day-by-day basis and listen to him.”
Sarri has used the 4-3-1-2 system for most of the season, but returned to a 4-3-3 system in the 3-0 win against Fiorentina last weekend.
“I give a preference to the system that gives me the most guarantees at the moment.
“Now with Douglas Costa implementing the 4-3-3 is easier. If I have to use a 4-3-1-2 then the team will be ready.”
There has been a lack of goals from Juve’s midfielders this season, but that doesn’t concern Sarri at the moment.
“When our strikers score a lot then there isn’t such need for the midfielders to score. We have defenders who have also scored a lot.
“However we can certainly improve in regard to midfielders adding goals.”
