Duvan Zapata celebrated Atalanta’s 2-1 win at Fiorentina and warned they intend to “make the most of this difficult period Roma are going through.”
Federico Chiesa had put the Viola in front with a smart control and half-volley, but Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskyi turned it around after the break.
“We had done well in the first half too, but Fiorentina’s enthusiasm picked up after the goal,” the Colombian told Sky Sport Italia.
“Once we got the equaliser, we kept control of the game and continued to dominate. The important thing was hanging in there when we were a goal down, so we could turn it around as a team.”
With Roma losing 3-2 to Bologna last night, it means Atalanta go three points clear in fourth place, and the two clubs go head-to-head next weekend.
“We want to make the most of this difficult period Roma are going through and make home advantage count.”
Duvan Zapata scored his first goal from open play since October 2019, having missed out for three months with a serious thigh injury.
“I am struggling a little to get back into shape, especially as I am quite a big guy, so it takes a while to get the engine going again. When I had the injury, I really was at the peak of my capabilities, so it’s a hard slog to get back to that point."
