Fiorentina patron Rocco Commisso is satisfied with La Viola’s results in 2021, but warns ‘football is reaching a point of no return.’

The American businessman wished happy birthday to Fiorentina fans with a letter published on the club’s website.

“Dear Viola Family,

“The holiday season is upon us once again and it’s time to wish each other a happy and peaceful Christmas.

“As you know, I had planned to spend this special time of the year in Florence with you, with our boys and girls, with all the people who work for Fiorentina and the entire Viola Family. Unfortunately, the doctors looking after me want me to stay close by and have advised me against following my heart, so I will have to remain here in America. At the moment there are people looking after me but I will continue to look after you, even from afar. We have enjoyed a very successful season so far and are starting to reap what we have sown in previous years. From the start I asked for time and patience. You, the Viola Family, have waited and we deserve this moment.

“However, we mustn’t lower our guard or assume that things will keep on getting better. We mustn’t forget the level of competition we’re up against. Many more battles await. We will never accept situations where there is a lack of clarity or transparency. We will fight to obtain the same rules for everyone and keep making our voice heard.

“Football – especially in Italy but not only in Italy – is facing a critical moment. We have almost reached the point of no return. Clear, careful decisions must be taken and implemented as quickly as possible for the future of the sport we love. We will continue to fight for fair principles, clear rules and transparency. I am happy and proud to look back on what 2021 has brought us: Viola Park, our future home, which continues to take shape with each passing day. It will be a unique place that will add great value for Fiorentina, Florence and everyone who loves the Viola.

“I hope you are able to spend the holidays with your nearest and dearest because we should never forget the importance of family, in health and in happiness.

“My family and I would like to wish all of you and your families a merry Christmas and a happy new year!”

  1. We need stadiums. Get rid of the red tape all over Italy. Its killing them, ranked 15th on world from several important indicators. its a disaster, travesty

  2. I hear the stadia thing over and over and yes it is no. 1 priority to get more cash and investment but italy has the worst owners from de laurentis to this clown to beeluaconi to the jailbird at sampdoria. These idiots use the club as a means of being famous and stroking egos. Are there owners in other leagues so visible besides perez? Its rife with corruption and sickening. Ive said a million times the issue in italy is that there are too many italians running things.

So you consider comisso to be an Italian?

I do agree with you but also consider the culture in Italy where the fans want their president to be visible and involved.
