Giampaolo Pazzini admits “the ball felt really heavy” when he took the winning penalty as Hellas Verona beat Juventus 2-1.
The substitute completed the comeback after Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal and a Fabio Borini equaliser.
“Just seeing the stadium like this and experiencing these moments, it was something the whole city deserved,” the 35-year-old said on DAZN.
“Having played three games in eight days and picked up so many points is remarkable, the squad deserves congratulations for its efforts.”
Verona were promoted last season from Serie B via the play-offs, but are now challenging for a place in Europe and unbeaten in eight rounds.
“I don’t think anyone expected to be doing this well, but we have created a really unified group here and even those who don’t play as much still help out during the week. It’s fundamental to have that unity.”
Not only does ‘Pazzo’ have a great record from the spot, he has also scored a goal every 39.5 minutes on the pitch this season.
“With penalties, you have to train hard all the time, but you cannot replicate a match situation. I admit that ball felt really heavy when I placed it on the spot.
“I haven’t thought about the future yet, but we’ll see what happens.”
