“I remember the Inter 4-0 victory in the 2009 derby,” Lukaku told the Inter Matchday Programme.

“I had just become a professional football player and I watched that match, as it was Wesley Sneijder’s debut. What made an impression on me was the performances of Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito, but above all I remember that marvellous Thiago Motta goal.”

When Lukaku first joined Inter from Manchester United, he revealed there were two ex-Nerazzurri legends he had wanted to emulate.

“I have two football idols who I would love to meet. They are Ronaldo and Adriano. If I should get the chance to talk to them, it’d be so exciting and just massive for me.

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to give even a small part of what they did to Inter, but my objective is work hard, grow and do my best for these club colours.

“I watch a lot of football in my spare time and like to learn about my opponents too, studying their movements. Once I switch off, I spend time with my son, play videogames, talk to my Mum. I live a pretty simple life, really.

“I don’t like to lose and I do get angry when that happens, but overall I am a very positive person. Considering where I come from and my history, I had no choice but to be positive. The way I live now, with my family, I have no reason to be negative. That has become my mentality, both on and off the field.”

Lukaku went viral on social media when he posted a picture of his new ultra-king-sized bed, with teammate Andrea Ranocchia asking if it was made for seven people.

“I had a joke with the coach too, but I explained that with the training sessions he puts us through, it’s fundamental to be comfortable when sleeping!”
