Only two Serie A clubs will enter the UEFA Europa League from the 2021-22 season onwards, with the sixth-placed club entering into UEFA’s third European trophy.
UEFA’s new competition, entitled the UEFA Conference League, is due to start from the 2021-22 season.
Calcio e Finanza reports that as it pertains to Serie A, only two sides will enter into the Europa League from 2021-22 onwards.
The fifth-placed side in the league, in addition to the winners of the Coppa Italia, will advance into the Europa League.
As it stands, the side who finishes sixth goes into the Europa League preliminaries.
However under the new structure, the sixth-placed side from Serie A will go into the Conference League.
At this point it’s unclear if for example the winner of the Coppa Italia also finished in the top four, the place will theoretically go to the team who finished seventh in Serie A.
UEFA’s third tournament will be comprised of 32 teams, divided into eight groups of four.
