Bonifazi: 'Happy about Di Biagio'

Kevin Bonifazi has revealed that he is “happy” to be reunited with Luigi Di Biagio at SPAL after his six-month struggle with Torino.

After struggling to establish himself at Torino, the defender came back to SPAL this winter and has already scored during the first three appearances since his return.

SPAL decided to part ways with Leonardo Semplici earlier this week and former Italy Under-21 coach Luigi Di Biagio has taken his place at the Paolo Mazza.

“I know him for three years now, from the time I arrived at the Under-21 squad,” Bonifazi said at a press conference. “The admiration is there, but he doesn’t let you relax and is on you at all times. I’m happy that he has arrived.”

But the defender has revealed that Semplici has played a big part in his development so far in his career.

“I came here with him, I was nobody and he gave me the chance to play,” Bonifazi said about his former coach. “I believe it’s a decision that we are all sorry about. Sometimes decisions have to be made and we must respect them.”

SPAL are currently bottom of the League and seven points behind safety, but Bonifazi insists that he is back to help the club stay up.

“I came back because of the people who run this club,” he said. “From the President and down to the warehouse workers. I struggle to find someone I don’t have a good relationship with.

“We have done great things here and personally, I wanted to help achieve the target of salvation.

“I have to improve on all aspects, especially my mentality. I have to start with the same ferocity that I have when I lose a duel.”
