Smalling signed for the Giallorossi on loan last summer from Manchester United.

The 30-year-old got off to a slow start, but soon became an automatic starter for coach Paulo Fonseca.

Roma have since been in talks with The Red Devils over a permanent move for Smalling, however there is a distance between the Giallorossi’s offer and the English side’s demands.

It is believed that Man Utd are asking €20m for Smalling, whilst Roma are prepared to offer €15m plus bonuses.

Smalling is it thought would like to stay in the Eternal City.

La Gazzetta states that now Everton have entered the race for the Englishman, who have initiated contact with Smalling’s agent.

The Milan daily suggests that Smalling’s future depends upon Roma qualifying for the Champions League for next season, as if they don’t finish fourth, or win the Europa League, the funds wouldn’t be available to meet United’s price demands.
