The debate has been raging over the last few days about use of VAR and the FIGC offering to experiment the use of ‘challenges’ in the same vein as tennis.
“I don’t like the idea of a challenge, because I shouldn’t be calling anyone. If the situation is clear, they ought to review it,” said Conte in his press conference.
“We have so many issues to deal with already during a game. If I watch the game on TV and the footage is pretty clear to make a more or less uniform decision, then it ought to be viewed and the challenge becomes futile.”
Conte is not alone in this, as Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini and Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi also disagreed with the idea of having set challenges for the on field review.
Yet several clubs and their coaches have complained that incidents are not always treated the same way.
“There are certainly some difficulties. There were situations that left those watching a little perplexed. Having said that, we must try to always believe that any error is made in good faith. The moment you start to think there is bad faith, you cannot accept it.
“I think there have been some very big errors and I hope that there can be fewer and fewer as time goes on.”
