Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi says the better side lost and that they would’ve got something from the game had they been ‘a bit calmer’ in front of goal.

The Neroverdi went down to a Gervinho strike in the first half, and De Zerbi believes his side’s defeat was unmerited given how the game went.

“I have little to reproach the lads about, except for perhaps not scoring and being a little imprecise, but this was how the game went,” De Zerbi told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“We must try not to let the defeat weigh on us because it was undeserved.”

Sassuolo had won three out of their last four games in the league, but despite the defeat, De Zerbi preferred to look at the positives.

“We didn’t get the result, but that was recognisably a Sassuolo performance, and so it’s not all bad.

“Then I don’t know if the people like that or not, but in our work we need to ask who we are. Today we were the team that wanted the ball between the two sides.

“We wanted to create something and were determined to put our style of play into the game.”

De Zerbi believes that a lack calm in front of goal cost his side the game.

“I think a little bit of inaccuracy in the final third, especially in the first half where we missed chances and made mistakes in passages of play that we usually don’t make.

“However I don’t want to blame the lads for anything.”
