Antonio Sanabria has said the “trust and confidence” from coach Davide Nicola has helped him become more productive at Genoa.

The Paraguay international has scored all his three Serie A goals in 2020, after Nicola replaced Thiago Motta at the Marassi.

“I think we are seeing a more aggressive and confident Sanabria,” he told Genoa Channel. “That’s what the coach wants from me, to try to help the team and sooner or later the goals will come.

“I believe the foundation of it all derives from the trust that Nicola has shown me. The confidence he had in me since he arrived, something I didn’t have before, by other coaches.”

Genoa are currently one point behind local rivals Sampdoria but are on a run of four games without defeat and with back-to-back wins against Cagliari and Bologna.

The 23-year-old believes that Genoa are on their way to secure a new contract in the top tier, and has claimed the new players will help push them towards safety.

“We are working, we are on the right path,” he added. “The other teams have strengthened, but we have also brought in players with so much experience that they will help us achieve this goal.”

He hopes to bring his form from the Marassi onto the international stage and wants to cement a place in the Paraguay side, to help them qualify for the next World Cup.

“Doing well here, scoring, means that I might help Paraguay qualify for the World Cup,” he said. “Because we haven’t been there for many years now.”
