The striker turns 30 today and is having the best season of his career, scoring 26 goals in 24 Serie A matches, up to 29 in 31 competitive games.

“I am still young, but inside I feel even younger!” he told Lazio Style Radio.

“We’re a big family here at Lazio, so we’re having a party, all of us together. I received thousands of messages on social media from Lazio fans and not just them. I feel your affection, I’m sorry that I cannot reply individually to all of them, as that would be impossible.

“As teammates, we really just get along and like spending time together, enjoy each other’s company. We’ve been able to build a family unit here.

“At times we have a go at each other, but that’s only natural, we make up and everything is even better than before. We started from pre-season training with so many dreams, now we are enjoying ourselves. We are a family chasing a dream.

“I love the kit staff to the physios like brothers. Those who work behind the scenes are fundamental, even if they don’t get as much attention.”

Lazio’s leap into second place behind Juventus and the run of 19 Serie A rounds unbeaten caught the eye of those outside of Italy too, including Liverpool manager Klopp.

“We feel proud, that’s the right word, of the way people are talking about Lazio. It shows that hard work does pay off,” continued Immobile.

“As for Klopp, I was pleased to hear his kind words. We met at the wrong time in our careers at Borussia Dortmund and I wish he’d been able to work with the real Ciro. Despite that, we were still able to win the German Cup.

“I had a difficult year at Sevilla, but other than that, I’ve always been fairly prolific.”
