“The difficulty is that we are up against a team that is in good shape, despite their latest defeat,” said Conte in his press conference.

The Blucerchiati are hovering above the relegation zone after a 5-1 home loss to Fiorentina.

“This side is alive and kicking, with a very experienced coach like Claudio Ranieri and good quality players. Fabio Quagliarella amazes year by year and we’ve got to be very focused to get the three points.”

The Nerazzurri were in action on Thursday evening with a 2-0 Europa League victory over Ludogorets in Bulgaria.

“Obviously, it’s difficult with just one day to prepare for the game. There’s not much time to change strategy, so we have to get used to it.

“Marcelo Brozovic and Alessandro Bastoni took part in training yesterday, we need to evaluate the situation. The important thing is, and I have said it many times, we have to focus on ourselves and improving game by game. There will be obstacles and stumbles, as in all walks of life.

“What matters is that we always have the strength to look forward and see that we are building something, without getting taken over by anxiety.”

There are reports Conte will use Christian Eriksen in a trequartista role behind Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku, if Brozovic starts in midfield.

“In some games, you have more of an opportunity to use a change of system than others, but we mustn’t forget that everything needs to be practiced first. We need a certain balance, so we’ll see if we have the necessary time to implement a new scenario.”

Lautaro Martinez continues to be linked with a move to Barcelona, especially after Lionel Messi praised him as the heir to Luis Suarez.

“The lad is fully concentrated, he knows he is doing well and must continue like this. He’s only 22 and has already improved so much compared to last year. I’m happy to have him in my squad.”
