Gent coach Jess Thorup says he was "disappointed" his side didn’t get anything against Roma in their Europa League Round of 32 first leg.

The Belgian side are 1-0 down from the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico last week, and Thorup says he felt his side could’ve got something.

“If someone had told me a few months ago that we would’ve faced Roma I would’ve thought it would’ve been very difficult,” said Thorup in his pre-game press conference.

“After last week’s game we were disappointed. We played well and it was a pity we didn’t score.

“We are ambitious and we have clear expectations and we will get some chances tomorrow.

“It will be difficult and we will have to score, if Roma score then we have to score three. We need to have a good mentality.

“We are the best Belgian side, we will play for all of Belgium and want to show that we are going up another level.”

Thorup was coy when discussing his game plan against the Giallorossi.

“It doesn’t seem the right time to talk about tactics. We have to score. Even if we were to score in the 80th minute, we could score another one later.

“We only need one goal, and we don’t need to force the situation. Having said that, Roma remain an excellent team and you have to be smart.”

Thorup says he expects a difficult game against Roma.

“We have seen how they 4-0 against Lecce and we analysed everything with the team.

“Knowing Italian teams they won’t let us play, how this will not change the way we want to play.”
