Pavel Nedved suggested Lyon coach Rudi Garcia has taken a “defensive” approach to the Champions League tie, while Juan Cuadrado can follow his Juventus footsteps.

“It is a special tournament that gives you extra motivation, with packed stadiums, more open football and the European environment. We want to be a more European team, so this is what we are after,” the vice-president told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a difficult competition because it’s played over two legs. This is why I think Garcia has chosen a more defensive line-up at home, trying not to concede away goals, so he hopes to fight it out on the counter in Turin.

“Juve want to win all competitions, so because we are in this one, we want to win this too. That is all.”

Lyon patron Jean-Michel Aulas said that Juventus are keeping a close eye on Houssem Aouar for the future.

“Aulas is good friends with our President. We are watching a lot of players, Aouar is a very interesting figure and we’re sure he’ll make an impact tonight.”

Fabio Capello in the Sky Sport Italia studio asked Nedved if he saw Cuadrado as a potential heir to his hard-working wide man role, now that Maurizio Sarri has moved the Colombian to the trident attack after months as a right-back?

“We are using Cuadrado practically all the time, because he is so versatile and can play in attack or defence. He is a very reliable player and we are trying to make the most of his presence.”
