Balotelli arrived last summer and has scored five times in 18 league matches this term, struggling to lead the Rondinelle to salvation in his return to Italian football.

The coach has jumped to his defence and is trying to protect the character surrounded by controversies, claiming that it’s “not how it seems” from the outside.

“They always ask me if it’s how it seems,” he told La Voz de Galicia. “He’s a “barbarian uncle”, completely different to how it might seem.

“He trains, has fun, you can tell that he likes the ball. And he has a great footballing intelligence.

“The stuff that he does, many of his teammates aren’t able to do. Mentally, he’s at a different pace. We have a good relationship and I hope he will help us save Brescia this season.”
