This afternoon, Don Massimiliano Gabbricci held a special mass inside the training ground, which was renamed in Astori’s honour.
Tributes poured in from his friends, colleagues and coaches, including Milan’s Stefano Pioli, who was on the Fiorentina bench at the time of the tragedy.
“Davide was a special person and an exemplary captain, he always said the right thing at the right time and with a tone that was suited to the situation,” wrote Pioli on the Milan Twitter account.
“Always available, generous with everyone, professionally impeccable. He took everything on with that calm demeanour and beautiful smile! He was one of the greats.”
