Dinamo Zagreb coach Nenad Bjelica has revealed that Milan had a higher offer for Dani Olmo, but the move to RB Leipzig “was his own choice”.

Milan were linked with the Spanish 21-year-old and seemed close to agreeing on a deal with the former Barcelona youth.

He ended up at RB Leipzig and has already played three times in the German Bundesliga, contributing one assist in the process.

His former coach Bjelica has revealed that Milan were close to signing the Spain international, who scored on his international debut.

“Milan’s offer for the boy was higher than the one of Leipzig,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “But the move to Germany was his own choice.

“He wanted Leipzig to play in the Champions League and to find a project where the young players develop.

“Milan didn’t offer bonuses, unlike Leipzig. Dinamo will receive 20 per cent of a future sale. With the bonuses, you might reach €50m.

“In my opinion, Milan would have been the ideal solution. Because I know what Italian football is like. If he had gone to Milan, he would have made an excellent choice. But he decided not to and we respect that.”
