Roma’s hopes of extending Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s loan spell from Arsenal were hit by manager Mikel Arteta’s comments. “I always liked him.”
The 31-year-old arrived on loan in the summer and suffered from some injury problems, but still contributed six goals and three assists in 13 Serie A games.
During a press conference, Arteta was asked if he would recall Mkhitaryan at the end of the season.
“It’s a possibility that we have and will consider,” said Arteta.
“I always liked him, he is the kind of player who can fit in any team when he is at his best.
“Miki is doing really well in recent games. We know the player he’s been, we know his past, and we need to have all the information to make the right decision.”
Mkhitaryan could be the second Premier League player revitalised by Roma, as Chris Smalling has gone from strength to strength after his Manchester United loan move.
