Players' Association President Damiano Tommasi has called for the total suspension of all football in Italy after the extension of Coronavirus restrictions.

He had already said earlier today via a statement on the AIC website that players were “concerned” at the lack of protection they were receiving.

News emerged this evening that the entire of Lombardy would be locked down along with several other northern cities, banning travel to and from those areas unless for emergencies or unavoidable work commitments.

This would include football matches, which are considered unavoidable work commitments, but this has infuriated the Players’ Association.

“Let’s stop the league!! Do we need anything else? Stop football!!” wrote Tommasi on Twitter.

He also added the hashtag #healthcomesfirst

All games are already going to be played behind closed doors until at least April 3.

The number of positive Coronavirus cases in Italy jumped forward today to 5,061, including 233 fatalities and 567 in intensive care.
