After head of the co-ruling PD party Nicola Zingaretti tested positive, so now has President of the Piedmont regional assembly Cirio.

Ironically, Cirio had last week tried to ensure at least some supporters would attend Juventus-Inter because there were relatively few cases in the region compared to Lombardy.

“As a precaution along with other governors who were present in Rome on March 4 for a meeting at Palazzo Chigi, I completed a test for Coronavirus and the result was unfortunately positive,” revealed Cirio.

“I am in good condition and already activated all the procedures to ensure those I have been in close contact with can be safe.”

A new Government decree was issued at 2am Italian time last night in a rushed press conference, which confirmed a total lockdown for all of Lombardy and 11 other provinces, including Alessandria, Asti, Novara, Vercelli and Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in Piedmont.

Travel to and from these areas is forbidden unless for emergencies and unavoidable work commitments.

So far, this has not affected the football season, as games are to be played behind closed doors anyway and the travel of teams is considered a work commitment.
