The Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte announced that Italy are in total lockdown until April 3, but what will happen to football now?

The decision to suspend all sporting competition – including Serie A – came after another spike in the Coronavirus cases.

The Prime Minister revealed that the red zone limitations would apply to all of Italy until April 3, 2020.

The Gazzetta dello Sport writes today that the clubs are still allowed to train and carry out the European matches that are scheduled in the time frame set by the government.

But in Serie A, the new provisions lead to another two rounds of fixtures having to be postponed and the FIGC will try to draw up a plan for the recovery after April 3.

The newspaper points out that there are no “specific legislation on the possible assignment of the League, on promotions and relegation”. Meaning that there could be a flaw from a legal point of view.

This will be a topic to be addressed and the outlet has claimed that there’s a hypothesis of not crowning a champion this term.

The contagion has spread to Europe, but for now the UEFA tournaments continue as normal.

Both the Champions League and the Europa League should go as planned, despite some of them being carried out behind closed doors already.

In the worst-case scenario, the Gazzetta dello Sport writes that some of the teams might have to find a neutral ground for their games to go ahead.

For Euro 2020, where one of the host nations is Italy, it’s still too early to decide, according to the report.

Italy have already requested a postponement and in the end, the governments will have the final say.
