Chile are preparing to put Inter forward Alexis Sanchez and Bologna midfielder Gary Medel in quarantine amid fear of the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.
Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal will also be subject to this decision, as Chile prepare for their World Cup Qualification games against Uruguay and Colombia.
The first match will take place in Uruguay on March 26, whilst Colombia arrive in Chile on April 1 during the upcoming international break.
Italy are in lockdown because of the rapid spread of the virus and Serie A has been suspended. Now, the Chilean government has decided to put the arriving players in quarantine as a precaution.
“We do not make any distinction about the profession of people, because nobody is immune to this virus,” the Minister of Health Jamie Manalich said, according to the local newspaper Emol. “Indeed, the quarantine determined today for Italy applies to everyone.
“Of course, if these players want to work out on a machine in their homes, or all be quarantined together at Juan Pinto Duran (the national stadium), then that’s their call.”
