Genoa President Enrico Preziosi warns changing the way relegation, promotion and the Scudetto are assigned due to the Coronavirus outbreak is “not possible.”

Serie A, B and C have been suspended until at least April 3, so if Euro 202 does go ahead as planned on June 12, there won’t be time to finish the season.

Different options are being considered, including play-offs for the top four and bottom four, or freezing the table as it stands.

“The primary objective is to overcome the health emergency, but when it comes to the league, everyone still wants to reach a natural conclusion,” said Genoa President Preziosi.

“That is the prevailing line in the various conference calls between Presidents. Implementing whole new rules, which have never been used before and are different to the ones we had when the season started, is not possible.

“This is simply not something anyone has prepared for. It is also wrong in principle as well as in practice. Those of us who invested heavily in January want to see our efforts rewarded by playing it out on the field with our current squad.”

Genoa are currently in the relegation zone on 25 points, along with Lecce, while SPAL have 18 and Brescia 16.
