Serie A will not resume until May 3 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, claim reports, using the time gained by the cancellation of Euro 2020 to finish the season.
Multiple sources including L’Equipe suggested today that UEFA would inevitably postpone the European Championships, which were due to kick off on June 12.
The opening game would’ve been in Rome between Italy and Turkey.
As more and more countries go into lockdown, suspending their domestic leagues, UEFA are under immense pressure to move the tournament to next summer.
This would give Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesliga and others the time necessary to complete the fixture list going into June.
Serie A was suspended until April 3, but that was only ever a place-marker date.
According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the Italian games will not resume until closer to May 3.
They would have to conclude the campaign by June 30, as that is the date when player and coach contracts expire.
None of the Serie A or B sides seem ready to accept the proposals put forward by the FIGC, which include play-offs for the Scudetto and relegation/promotion, or freezing the table as it stands now.
