The striker said during an Instagram live chat that Serie A played the remaining fixtures from Week 26, including Juventus 2-0 Inter, because they “had to wait until Juventus went back on top before stopping the league.”

Brescia released a statement this evening noting the club “wished to officially distance itself from the comments made by their player Mario Balotelli, relative to hypothetical favouritism in Serie A.

“Specifically, Mario Balotelli during an Instagram live transmission repeated on YouTube, made comments today that alluded to ‘favours’ for a team (Juventus) in the running for the title.

“Brescia Calcio underline that such insinuations are strictly personal and are in no way representative of the Club.”

Balotelli had already posted another message on his Instagram Stories assuring it was in no way an insult towards Juventus, nor an insinuation, but rather a joke.

“They had to play because Juventus had a game in hand, that’s all!”
