The Brazilian midfielder, currently playing for Sao Paulo, has played for the top two in Serie A 2019-20 but reveals that he would like to see Lazio come out on top against Juventus.

He is following the situation closely in Italy and also wanted to send a message to the people affected by the Coronavirus outbreak.

“More than the virus itself, I’m concerned about the fear it is causing among people and families,” Hernanes told La Repubblica. “I salute you all, I hope that too many alarms will not arise, and that this situation will be resolved as soon as possible.”

Hernanes has admitted that Simone Inzaghi’s Lazio have impressed everyone in Brazil, as he still follows his former clubs in Italy.

“Inzaghi’s team deserve to be there and I’m happy for Lazio, who are certainly enjoying this splendid ride,” he added. “It’s fun to see them play. I hope they can win the Scudetto.

“Everybody has followed the Italian League and they are surprised by what Lazio are doing. Especially since they have seen Juventus win the League for eight years with ease.

“Nobody could keep up with them, they ran too fast for everyone. Now the two title contenders are the two sides I played for during my time in Italy, so many people stop me to talk about it.”

The 34-year-old midfielder has revealed that he misses the feeling of playing at the Olimpico and the atmosphere in Rome.

“I really miss the fans, as well as the beautiful city of Rome,” he said. “Every time I go back, it’s always exciting.

“I was in Italy at the end of January and I passed through the capital because I stopped there on my way to the San Paolo. When I was at the airport, I met some fans and, even if it was only for a few minutes, it was great to relive that atmosphere.”

The former hero revealed that his Brazilian compatriot Lucas Leiva contacted him before his move from Liverpool to Lazio.

“He [Leiva] called me before he accepted the offer from Lazio,” Hernanes said. “We talked for a bit. I told him how it felt to experience football in Rome and when I see what he is doing, I’m really happy for him.

“We were teammates in the national team, we played together during the Beijing Olympics in 2008.”

Luis Alberto and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have both impressed for the Biancoceleste this term and Hernanes praised the two creative midfielders.

“They are two excellent players, they are very good,” he added. “If I could have played with them, it would have been a pleasure.”
