Grande Inter forward Peiro' dies

Former Inter, Torino and Roma player Joaquin Peiró has died at the age of 84. He was most famous as a member of Helenio Herrera’s Grande Inter side.

The Spanish forward cemented his place in Nerazzurri history by scoring against Liverpool in the European Cup semi-final in 1965, when he snuck up on goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence and intercepted a clearance.

He spent a good chunk of his career in Italy, joining Torino in 1962, moving to Inter two years later and then Roma from 1966-70.

Peiró returned to Atletico Madrid for one more season before retiring in 1971.

He then had a coaching career with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Granada, Malaga and Real Murcia.
