It’s reported that several Serie A clubs are ready to vote down the idea of playing Champions League and Europa League games on a weekend as they rush to finish the season.
All the major European competitions have ground to a halt during the coronavirus pandemic, with tentative hopes of resuming on May 2.
More meetings are planned this week to discuss the calendar going forward, but news agency Adnkronos and site Calcio e Finanza report that one plan is already being shot down.
UEFA and the European Club Association had agreed to remove the restrictions banning UEFA competition from taking place on a weekend.
However, it’s reported a majority of Serie A clubs have already warned they will not accept that shift and will only play domestic fixtures on Saturday and Sunday.
FIGC President Gabriele Gravina reiterated today that the preliminary idea is to resume on May 2-3, but it all depends on how quickly the coronavirus pandemic passes.
The plan is to finish by June 30, although they can burst into July if necessary.
