Juve have seen two players test positive for COVID-19, Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi, so 121 members of the club including staff and President Andrea Agnelli were isolated.

Usually, the quarantine period for those exposed to someone who tested positive for coronavirus is 15 days, as confirmed by Inter when they put their squad into lockdown because Juventus were their most recent opponents.

Considering Higuain, Pjanic and Khedira were in direct contact with Rugani – who was only on the bench for the Inter game – a week should not be enough for a quarantine period.

Social media users, reporters and pundits have raised questions as to why Higuain, Pjanic and Khedira were given permission to not only leave their homes, but the country.

All three requested permission from the club and were able to leave after showing police they had recently tested negative for COVID-19.

However, the incubation period for this illness can be anything from 5-14 days and Rugani tested positive on March 11.

All of Italy is in lockdown due to the crisis, which has killed 3,405 people in Italy, more than those who died in China during the peak of their outbreak.

La Repubblica and La Gazzetta dello Sport had initially reported Higuain and his teammates had ‘escaped’ quarantine because it did not seem logical for players to be given the all-clear only a week into self-isolation when two players in the squad have already tested positive.

There was even more confusion on Thursday evening when Leonardo Bonucci’s wife announced on an Instagram livestream that the defender had undergone a test for coronavirus, but they didn’t have the result yet.
