Coronavirus deaths in Italy over 4,000

There have been 627 Coronavirus-linked deaths in Italy in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to over 4,000.

Italy is at the epicentre of the pandemic in Europe.

Over the past 24 hours, it has been reported that there was a further 627 deaths in Italy, bringing the total to 4,032.

There has been 4,670 new cases, bringing the total to over 37,000 active cases, with the number at 47,021 overall.

The number of deaths in the Lombardy region alone stands at 2,549.

Emilia-Romagna is the next hardest-hit province, with 640 deaths.

Italy has now overtaken China as the country with the most deaths related to COVID-19.
