In a statement, the FFA has revealed that it will “review the situation over the coming weeks with a further formal status assessment now scheduled for April 22.”

The former Italy international Diamanti moved to Australia last summer and has left a message to the fans on social media.

“Dear Western United supporters,” he wrote on Instagram. “In this current surreal situation, that is affecting the entire world, it is our responsibility to act as a big community.

“We are going to get through this TOGETHER. It will mean sacrifice and patience from all of us, but we will come out WINNERS. STAY HOME, be safe and see you soon!”

The 36-year-old has played 19 games since his move to Western United FC and has contributed five goals and seven assists so far.
