Agent Andrea Pastorello has claimed Real Salt Lake City star Giuseppe Rossi wanted a return to Fiorentina but “never had the opportunity”.

The former Italy international was released by Fiorentina in July 2017, after two stints on loan at Levante and Celta Vigo in La Liga but managed to mark his stay at the Artemio Franchi with 19 goals in 42 games for the Viola.

After an article about one of his finest performances in the purple shirt, during a 4-2 comeback against Juventus, the agent revealed that Rossi received a lot of messages on Twitter from fans in Florence and revealed that he would have jumped at the chance of a return to the Tuscan side.

Rossi signed with Salt Lake in February after being without a club since July 2018, when the 33-year-old left Genoa after only 10 games for the Rossoblu.

“I have never hidden his desire to return to Fiorentina,” he told Casaviola. “Unfortunately, he never had the opportunity.

“There had been contact with [CEO Joe] Barone and [Sporting director Daniele] Prade, but we never had an opening from the club.”

Rossi was picked up by Manchester United in 2004 but a series of serious knee injuries stopped the promising forward from reaching his true potential and his peak came at Villarreal in La Liga, where he scored 82 times in 191 games for the Yellow Submarine.
