Commisso: '12 cases at Fiorentina'

President Rocco Commisso has revealed there were 12 cases of coronavirus at Fiorentina and how the situation prevented him from returning to Florence.

The patron was with the team when they beat Sampdoria 5-1 but after leaving the country the next day, he hasn’t been able to return due to the growth of the emergency since the match at the Marassi.

The mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani interviewed Commisso in his Common Sense broadcast on YouTube, where the Viola chief promoted their campaign to help hospitals in Italy.

“A month ago, we were in Genoa,” the President said. “I was with my Fiorentina and we were going to play against Sampdoria.

“We won and I went back to New York. I was supposed to go back to Italy, but it wasn’t possible because the country became the epicentre of this virus.

“We went to Udine without playing and then had to return a week later. That’s when our team started to be affected. It was not as serious when I left Italy.

“Fiorentina had 12 cases of people with coronavirus. Six of these are or have been in hospital.

“We have launched an important solidarity campaign to raise funds for hospitals, to help with the purchase of equipment, masks and more.”
