Former Juventus hero Angelo Di Livio has called for the season to be cancelled. “The time has come to close down everything”.

The 53-year-old retired from football in 2005, after ending his career with a stint at Fiorentina, but he managed to pick up three Scudetti, two Coppa Italia and the Champions League before hung up his boots.

But the former midfielder has claimed that football is not the priority right now and has claimed that the “people are thinking about everything but” the unfinished Serie A campaign.

But the former midfielder has claimed that football is not the priority right now and has claimed that the “people are thinking about everything but” the unfinished Serie A campaign.

“The time has come to close down everything and cancel the season,” Di Livio told Tuttosport. “There’s no point in playing, people are thinking about everything but the championship.

“It’s not certain when it can resume, many matches will be overlapped and the whole system would be in difficulty, bearing in mind that next year there will be the European Championship.

“I think it’s correct to cancel the season and start again in July or August. That’s the only way to save Italian football.”

He added that the Coronavirus outbreak was came as a “lightning bolt” and calls for the government to “reward” all doctors and nurses for their efforts during the ongoing emergency.

“It was a lightning bolt, it surprised us all. There’s a lot of fear and concern,” Di Livio told Tuttosport. “The doctors and nurses are extraordinary and incredible heroes; they don’t have a moment of rest.

“I hope they will be rewarded by the state when this bad period ends. Without them, it would be really difficult for us.”
