Preziosi: 'No sense finishing the campaign'

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi insists it “makes no sense” to resume Serie A and opposes the idea of a prolonged transfer market. “August is more than enough”.

The Rossoblu climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-1 win against Milan in their last match before the break and coach Davide Nicola has had a positive impact at the Marassi since he took over in December.

But the President doesn’t seem keen on making an effort to resume play in the top tier, as he claims he doesn’t “know how much it is worth” struggling to finish the season.

“I can’t find the sense in completing this very strange season,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “I don’t know how much the attempt to finish it is worth.”

He also disagrees with the idea of a prolonged transfer market amid reports about FIFA’s idea of letting the clubs sell and buy players until the end of the year and suggests they only need “25 to 30 days” to conclude the necessary deals.

“I have no doubts, the standard duration, or the summer one, is already too long,” he added. “You can’t be thinking to negotiate for four to five months.

“I would terminate the championship at the end of July, to have all of August only for the transfer market. I think 25 to 30 days would be more than enough.”
