Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has claimed that there is a “big chance” the season will be scrapped.

Serie A will hold talks with UEFA on Wednesday, which could shed light on whether the 2019-20 campaign will be completed over the summer months or simply written off.

“We can’t train right now,” Commisso told Gr Parlamento.

“Hopefully we will soon, but [the pandemic] isn’t over yet. We’re not running too far ahead, we don’t know when we’ll reach a point of no new cases.

“I hope that in the South, which doesn’t have the North’s resources, it doesn’t spread too much.

“We’re more positive now, but not entirely: there are people who don’t work in Italy, the economy is destroyed.”

The Italo-American tycoon then praised the Viola’s arch-rivals Juventus after their first team agreed to waive their salaries until June.

“We’re a company and Juventus have taken a good initiative. We’re on a very solid footing, but we’re still studying something for the future, to help Italian football.

“The good thing about this trauma is that everyone has come together. Fiorentina have become stronger on a human level.

“There’s a big chance that this season won’t be concluded, I don’t know. We must go on, thinking there’s a likelihood that we won’t play again this season.”
