Lecce are fighting for salvation in the top tier and are currently placed in the relegation zone, only behind Genoa in safety on goal difference.

The President would like to see the Giallorossi get a chance to save their season but only with certain criteria in place.

“I hope the current season will be concluded. I am for the restart, to say it in short,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “But it is a reasoned wish, based on some assumptions.

“The first is obviously that we can overcome the pandemic and the second, equally obvious, is the certainty that no damage will be caused for the athletes or other people involved.

“Finally, you don’t have to wait to long, to avoid jeopardising anything for the next season.”

The Lecce patron has therefore highlighted the difficulties Serie A faces in the current emergency and underlined that the championship would have to conclude before ‘mid-July’.

“It would be difficult to play beyond mid-July without doing any damage,” he added. “In addition, the season must however end early, because of the European and the Olympics being postponed.”
