Hellas Verona midfielder Mattia Zaccagni described his experience suffering from coronavirus. “I was frightened at first, but I feel good now and have resumed training.”
He was one of 12 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Serie A players, although Sampdoria and Fiorentina have hinted there were more that chose not to be named due to privacy reasons.
“I was frightened at first, but to a certain degree, I did expect the test to come back positive,” Zaccagni told Hellas Verona Channel.
“I had those symptoms for two or three nights beforehand, so a light fever, strong pain in my leg muscles that hurt even at night. However, I am fine now and I’ve resumed training.
“I received so many messages via social media and thank everyone who wrote to me. I really felt the affection of the people in Verona. At least I get to do something for a couple of hours every day, otherwise life in lockdown is very monotonous, with TV, PlayStation or Netflix.
“Seeing as many kids have sent me messages asking to play, I tried to friend them and compete with some fans on online games. I’m also carrying on a pledge with some friends not to cut my hair or beard until the quarantine is over.”
