Di Lorenzo: 'Napoli must pick up where we left off'

Defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo said ‘it’s a shame’ the season was interrupted when Napoli were in a positive moment. ‘We were doing well’.

The right-back arrived at the San Paolo ahead of the current campaign and has impressed under both Carlo Ancelotti and his successor Gennaro Gattuso, playing the most minutes of everyone in the squad – a feat that he finds ‘pleasing’.

After 25 games in the league, contributing two goals and four assists, the former Empoli defender has been through the ups and downs of the current campaign and was sad to see Serie A be suspended when they had started to find their rhythm under the new coach.

“I’m very well, I’m at home and I invite everyone to respect the rules that are given to us. We don’t think it’s all over,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. “Training at home is not like being in a team, but the club has made all the tools available to keep us fit and continue our work on an individual level.

“My statistics are pleasing, as far as the team is concerned, it’s a shame to have interrupted the positive moment because we were doing well.

“We will have to make sure we pick up where we left off, we were starting to do what the coach asked of us.”

Di Lorenzo vowed to remain positive and optimistic but admitted that it’s difficult to predict anything regarding the possible resumption.

“At the moment it’s a bit difficult to predict, there will be many games to recover and I think the best solution is not to compromise the current season and the following one,” he added. “We will resume when we are fully protected and when we receive the green light from the government.

“We will no longer have to think about the virus when it’s all over. At the beginning we will all be more careful, once it has passed, we will return to live peacefully.”
