The number of coronavirus cases in Italy has continued to stabilise, despite another 762 deaths since yesterday.

Although the rate of fatalities remains high, Friday’s figure is only two greater than that of 24 hours ago.

Authorities have also confirmed that the country is on track to start the next phase of its COVID-19 response on April 13.

As of Friday, there have been 119,827 positive tests of coronavirus (+4,585), with 85,388 of them currently active (+2,339).

A total of 19,758 people have recovered (+1,480) and 14,681 have died.

Out of the 85,388 active cases, 52,579 are in self-isolation (+2,123), 28,471 are in hospital (+201) and 4,968 are in intensive care (+15).

There has been a further increase in tests, with 38,617 more taking the total tally to 618,849.
