Daniele De Rossi described his special six months in the Boca Juniors jersey. “I feel truly privileged to have played” at the Bombonera.
The midfielder retired at the age of 36 in January, having spent his entire career in the Roma jersey before a brief spell in Argentina.
Although he eventually made only seven competitive appearances for Boca, he did score a goal.
“I couldn’t tell you what I experienced in those six months in Argentina,” De Rossi told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s a unique place, very similar to Italy, more than we might think, especially as half of the population there has Italian origins. They live with absolute passion for everything, from food to music and football.
“You might find their domestic league debatable in terms of tactics and quality, but in six months I never saw a player pull back or not give 200 per cent.”
The World Cup winner said he wanted to experience playing at the Bombonera and achieved that lifelong dream.
“The most wonderful thing about being there was looking up into the stands. They had the kind of passion and fire that we’ve lost in Italy. Their love for the club is pure.
“The Bombonera is the most astonishing stadium in the world and I wish all football fans could visit it during a Boca game. I feel truly privileged to have played there, even if not for long.”
