Milan are ‘dreaming’ of a sensational deal to sign Mauro Icardi from arch-rivals Inter, claims Corriere dello Sport.

The newspaper writes Milan could benefit from the continuing standoff between Inter and Juventus, who have long been linked with taking the striker to Turin.

The Argentine is currently on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, where he has scored 20 goals this season, and the French giants have a €70m option to buy.

However, speculation surfaced earlier this week that the 26-year-old is not planning to stay beyond the end of his loan spell.

As per Il Corriere, Icardi would represent “the real leader Milan need, who makes a difference on the pitch.”

Furthermore, the move is described as having a better chance of taking off if Luciano Spalletti is appointed the Rossoneri’s next coach.

Maurito enjoyed his best individual campaign under Spalletti in 2017-18, when he helped fire Inter back into the Champions League with 29 Serie A goals.

However, the publication warns Italian sides hoping to sign Icardi face an additional €15m premium, so he would cost the Rossoneri at least €85m.

That would contradict Gazzetta dello Sport’s report of Elliott Management only preparing to invest €75m on new players this summer.

On the other hand, it is no secret the hitman enjoys living in Milan and several players have crossed the San Siro divide over the years.
