Coronavirus cases continue to drop in Italy, with 525 deaths in the last 24 hours and another fall in ICU admissions.

Italy today recorded its lowest death toll since March 19, giving the country more cause for optimism in its fight against COVID-19.

There has also been another drop in the number of people entering intensive care (-17 since Saturday) and deaths in Lombardy – the national epicentre of the pandemic (-276).

Italy today recorded its lowest death toll since March 19, giving the country more cause for optimism in its fight against COVID-19.

There has also been another drop in the number of people entering intensive care (-17 since Saturday) and deaths in Lombardy – the national epicentre of the pandemic (-276).

The improvement has been such that no more patients will be transferred out of Lombardy because its hospitals are no longer overflowing.

As of Sunday, there have been 128,948 positive tests of coronavirus (+4,316), with 91,246 of them currently active (+2,972).

A total of 21,815 people have recovered (+819) and 15,887 have died.

Out of the 91,246 active cases, 58,320 are in self-isolation, 28,949 are in hospital with symptoms and 3,977 are in intensive care.

There has been a further increase in tests, taking the total tally to 691,461.
